Just another day at sea..
Vol 1,No 15
At Sea
It’s been nearly two months since I signed onboard this ship.
Time is sure flying now- less than two months from the anticipated date of “sign-off”- the day that a Mariner signs the “Article” that says the contract is finished. Also, I would be receiving any last money on the ship’s books that is owed to me at that time.
The seas have been getting better. The first day or so, out at sea presented us with some high winds and 15-18 foot seas. We had our usual Boat Drills and other safety related information passed, afterwards, in the crew’s mess. The captain would say a few things about possible future happenings or any specific concerns such as keeping noise down, underway, or separating our trash so that plastic is to be disposed of by incinerator.
I have a Philipino Ordinary Seaman (OS), who hasn’t worked aboard ship, much. He hasn’t much knowledge of steering, as well. So, I have been instructing him on how to steer and follow “Commands” given by me.
Poor guy- his English isn’t very good, so I think other ‘mates’ have not given him his fair chance.
Well, off I go to Navigate…Have a great weekend!
