Historic Great Lake Freighter

Hi There-
It has been a couple of days since I’ve signed on, aboard the ANDERSON .

Already, I’ve helped with unloading of stone and the loaded some rock used in the cleaning of furnaces (industrial type). Lots of work, but actually going very smoothly.
We ventured to a port called Two Harbors , Minnesota before heading to the ‘Soo’ (Sault Ste Marie).
This morning..we transited the Soo from the Lake Superior side and then down the St. Mary’s River- where the view was absolutely wonderful! Lots of vegetation with l trees, turning into their fall colors, also, remote islands and picturesque hillsides with a hint of light fog, in the morning as we passed by this northern part of Michigan .
We are heading west now, and just passed inbetween Macinac Island and Bois Island heading down Lake Michigan ..
Onward to Gary , Indiana where we will drop off this cargo.
A lot of the crew is from Michigan , and a small town, called Rogers City . It is located on the North Eastern side of Michigan . It’s also a site where we shall load Calcite, in the future.
The Captain has helped quite a bit, helping with some of the transits- aiding with navigation and getting me settled in.
The 1st Mate as well as the 2nd Mate are very helpful, as well. Most of what I do is helped by fellow officers since much of what I do that is asked of me is still new to me.
I have Cel Phone coverage, at times..and Satellite TV.
At 767 feet, this ship isn’t that small. It was built in the early 50’s, but seems to be in great shape. The fresh water helps as corrosion is at a minimum as there isn’t salt to corrode the steel.
Well, if you wish to email me, or you forward this on…just have them put my name in the subject heading.
