The Excitement is back!!
No sooner did I think that all would be lost with the notion that a shipping job was given away to some other eligible mate, when the union called me on a job that required a Third Mate, and fast!
I accepted the job and will be shipping out on Sunday!
The job assignment is for a 75 day contract on board the Tanker CHEMICAL EXPLORER. It’s an Integrated Tug and Barge, or ITB. Crowley Marine is the company who runs the ship, and is one of the greater shipping companies in the United States. Within the short two minute conversation I had with the Dispatcher at the union hall, over the phone, I gladly accepted the job and the coordinator from the company called me shortly thereafter.
Well, within an hour, I had all twenty documents faxed, such as License,Passport,Drug Card, and recent Physical among other things. Not only that, but by day’s end, an itinerary was emailed to me, on the flight to Galveston,Texas. After a long day of corresponding with the office coordinator, Jackie, and after purchasing some last minute necessities at Walmart, my luggage was more than halfway packed!
These jobs sometimes only give a day or so of notice! And this job was needed for Sunday, only two days after it was posted with the union! You have to act quickly, yet, have all that is required for the long journey!
The ship will be operating between ports within the Gulf of Mexico! As far as I believe, I’ll be within phone reach, during those port calls.
And please understand that there might be a disruption in Internet service so check this blog for the latest as I will try and update, as much as I can.
Thanks y’all and Have a great day!
