By Thursday there shall be change…

Word has it that we’re ’shifting’ to the inner anchorage come Thursday or Friday of this week. Shifting in nautical jargon is a term used to mean a short transfer of the ship to another dock or anchorage as opposed to a ‘voyage’- and usually only within a few miles of the current location.

No Cargo…

The ship has been at anchor for over ten days now with no orders of cargo! Our fresh water supply has dwindled as well as valuable provisions such as milk and fresh vegetables. It has been rumored of a barge full of drinking water which may arrive in the coming days.

Halfway Point!

I’ve reached my five weeks aboard which makes it the halfway point of my voyage!
Our satellite television reception has been fixed and we are now receiving a signal. Both the Chief Engineer and the 1st Assistant Engineer have worked feverishly at trying to get the system to work over the past couple of weeks and it finally paid off!

More At Anchor

We’re at anchor off the coast of Galveston, Texas at the ‘fairway anchorage, awaiting orders for cargo. This outer fairway anchorage is the spot where, typically, ships go to anchor for periods of time ranging from a couple of days to a few weeks. The term fairway in maritime lingo refers to the virtual highway by which mostly commercial vessels follow.

Latest events make for excitement aboard!

It was another successful load of gasoline and jet fuel for the Chemical Explorer as it delivered the precious cargo while in Ft. Lauderdale, Fl and now we’re heading back to our staging area, as I call it, in Galveston, Texas to wait for another load of fuel from somewhere! A few events took place which made the stay in Florida, challenging.

The Heat is on!

The trip across the Gulf has been non eventful, with respect to weather and seas. Our ship has been making an average speed over 13 knots during the three days, underway. However, the air conditioning throughout the ship has proved to be a challenge as most of the staterooms have warmed up over eighty degrees!

On the Move!

Sorry if I haven’t been updating with events, however, we’ve been busy with loading gasoline and jet fuel in Lake Charles, Louisiana these past few days.
Within an hour of my last post, the captain got short notice of a load in Lake Charles for gasoline and jet fuel, destined for Port Everglades, FL.

At Anchor - Galveston,TX

Hey Y’all! I Made it to Texas! We arrived this morning, Monday, to the inner anchorage thereby being closer to the main town of Galveston. Cell phone coverage, as well as launch boat service is possible here and any crewmember can seek life ashore, for once.
