The days roll by…
Each day, I try and accomplish something!
Not working and sitting idle from a job can be your worst enemy. By doing various activities like reading,taking walks,working on the house,visiting with friends or by preparing for our next assignment may be just the tasks to keep the vitality; keeping active, the neurons and serotonin within our brains, so we can function when needed.
The Democratic Convention has occupied my time during the evening hours. I watched in amazement as Senator Hillary Clinton and ex-President Bill Clinton, spoke eloquently on behalf of Candidate Barrack Obama. I’ve missed these political conventions in recent past as my travels
generally sent me to far away places, where there was no satellite or cable television. In August of 2004, I was on a cargo ship destined for the Persian Gulf and couldn’t view the convention. We had no television coverage throughout the entire voyage and the brief news was piped in from shortband radio.
Speaking of news, a gentleman who contacted me through the Merchant Marine Express, has asked for information about the prospects of landing a spot aboard a Great Lakes Freighter as an observer so he can get an idea of life aboard these majestic haulers. In doing so, he can use this information along with captures from video to incorporate into a segment about the Edmund Fitzgerald. So, I was on the phone speaking with the Captain who I sailed alongside with while on the Arthur M. Anderson to get some ideas.
I also spoke with Travis who was Third Mate on the Chemical Explorer just the other day, as well. I was given up-to-date information on what the vessel endured since my departure back in June. Apparently, the ship has traveled as far north as New York for work, and as far west as Corpus Christi, Texas. I’m not due back for some more weeks, to come. But anxious to see where the ChemEx calls to port, next.
I try and accomplish something everyday. My time is preoccupied, to a certain extent. Although, I am sitting and fidgeting in my seat as to the prospects that await.
