Picking up yet another load of Cargo
At Sea, En route to Lake Charles, LA
We’ve managed to settle into a schedule of loading and unloading which seems routine. The only thing that has not become a comfort issue is the lack of sea time, which, at only two days of underway time separate cargo ports. A mariner loves being at sea, and cargo operations signify when one truly puts their efforts into ‘working’. But work means money for the company, and having liquids flow through pipes is what our job entails.
We need to replenish on bunkers once in Lake Charles, LA. So, we will anchor and receive both heavy fuel oil (HFO) and the lighter Diesel Oil (DO), intended for the generators. Premium and Regular Unleaded has been the staple of cargoes along with Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) and Jet Fuel intended for Tampa, Florida region.
Once in Tampa, the ship has shifted to three docks in as many days. A truly bustling time and calls for ‘all hands’ for docking or undocking seemed to happen right at meal hours.
I’ve managed to pay a visit to my in-laws while in Tampa the past trip! They made a vacation stop from Michigan and happened to have some time to drive down to the dock and pick me up for a short breakfast, ashore. It was awesome to have family so close to the ship, and grateful the timing of it all, went as planned.
Well, satellite television is working fine and news of national events including the race for the new president has mostly been the issue dominating the screen.
Enjoy your day!
