Tampa and the tennis tournament
We were delayed for awhile back in Lake Charles, LA while loading cargo. Apparently, some Regular Unleaded gasoline via a storage tank was the culprit and a new batch was ordered, to the tune of some 4.5 million gallons. In the end, we managed to Depart late on November the 1st as this delay cost us almost eighteen hours of valuable time.
In addition, I feel like I am in one big tennis tournament- back and forth, from one coast to another. Three docks in Tampa can sure wear us out before another two days in Louisiana; all in a matter of two and a half days between ports! Whew!
As I said before, all the Mates are feeling the effects of the enduring work the cargo has brought us. The mood is downright neutral, with hardly a laugh between us. Although, I can tell the Engine Department still has a spark of interest as the Chief Engineer shares a laugh with his comrades, and the entire bunch, gathered within the engine control room, burst with commotion and remarks. The Bridge stays quiet.
I look forward to using my phone while, in Port. I think this is by far, the best morale for any mariner. Since the cell phone has replaced mail, the instant hailing of family or loved ones is what we anticipate most, as we near port. In most cases, the reception becomes strong, hours before docking and a short call to inform loved ones of our impending Arrival is most welcomed by both parties. Along with satellite television or a good book,
these are the primary forms of entertainment. Going ashore is a novelty we don’t always get to take advantage of, as well. Just too busy or too tired.
I’m off to wash off the lifeboats after Watch, as the dirt and grime has dulled the Orangish paint, somewhat.
We’ll be arriving into Tampa by early afternoon on the 4th, Election Day.
Have a great one!
