Travelling Out West!

California will be the destination for a long anticipated vacation.
Since travel upon the ocean means a lot of new and exciting adventures away from home, I still enjoy a chance to return back to the land from which I grew up. California means family, and also an abundance of things to see and do.

The focus of my journey will be mostly of the Southern California region. The New Year is fast approaching and to add one more trip before the year is through, seems like a challenge which I feel dedicated to accomplish!

The Christmas holiday went well. The wife and I spent the holiday with bulging eyes as formidable gifts like warm slippers made of warm felt and music CD’s from already aspiring singers brought a glimmer to our eyes. Following the presents, dinner was served as the best Sweet Potato Pie dish lay in front of me. I’m not a big sweet potato fan, yet this dessert was extraordinary! The family retreated afterwards to the living room where the showing of the Classic movie, “A Christmas Story” brought back memories.

I am sending out warm wishes to all the Mariners out on the open water, as well as on the beach, where ever they are spending the remaining days of 2008. This year has been prosperous as it has brought me decent employment, as well, it has allowed for visits to see family and friends; many of whom I’ve not seen in many years. I wish you all the best in the coming year, and I wish the best in the coming year.

My contract on board ship has reduced to a manageable two and a half months, and the quick passage between ports ensures that a phone call back home within a couple days of departure.

I’ve realized that no matter how luck runs its course or if you try your best at what you do and work to achieve your dreams, don’t stop trying as the end result will bring you what you’ve set out to accomplish! Many a times, I’ve had set backs within the merchant marine industry… Testing issues; delays in issuance of desired identification; “berths”, ie. ‘job positions’ replaced at the last moment due to personnel problems- all were challenges that I’ve managed to overcome in 2008.

I shall post new pictures by year’s end. In the meantime, Have a Great Day!

  3. Officer Kirk or fellow shipmate!
Enjoy the time spent while at school. I’ve reviewed the curriculum at South Tyneside College and a very remarkable study, indeed! I remember well my four years at Academy and all the extracurricular events which made more memorable occasions. I happened to achieve Corps Second Mate grade during my third year at CMA. It was the only appointed position which truly involved maritime related tasks; planning the voyage of the Training ship, Golden Bear!

Just one word of advice-don’t pull any pranks, while at college, though; you will want to try and graduate with as few Demerits as possible but try and attend as many functions or galas as you can withstand!
    Best in 09′!
    Cheers!
