A new journey begins.
I have been summoned to work! The Chemical Explorer will be my floating villa for the next two months!
I will continue where my relief, Colin, left off. The ship is continuing its transits between Tampa and Lake Charles, Louisiana. My duties have changes slightly, as I will be housed in the hospital room which doubles as a stateroom. My extra duties entail inventorying the medical supplies, managing crew lists and updating muster lists, etc. Purging of cargo pumps of extra cargoes and maintaining hermetic tapes are some of the additional duties which I will have the distinction of being in charge of.
Captain Smith is in command, along with Chief Mate, Mike P. who has been the Chief Mate, during my last trip. I enjoy their professionalism and will welcome the unfamiliar Second Mate and other Third Mate’s company. I’m not exactly sure if they’ve worked on this particular ship in the past, so anything I can aid with, I will be willing to help.
The regular contract with Citgo continues and fuels such as gasoline and jet continue to flow through our specially intertwined piping system. The seasons are changing and fog may become a problem in the Gulf as air masses of hot and cold replace one another, and quickly.
Due to the nature of my job and since time constraints may make for sporadic log entries, please be patient as news of the trip may not be posted in quick fashion.
Thanks, though, for your continuing interest in the realm of the maritime industry and with camera, in hand, I hope to post more exciting photos in the near future.
Have a good day!

Congratulations on your new assignment! When possible, can you let us know what the internet connection onboard ship is like?
Hi friend-
We have Internet connection while, in port! A wireless connection throughout the ship enabling officers and crew to link up with the ship’s master connection and is readily available. Bandwidth is not the greatest as downloads take a bit to complete. However, while underway, we resort to only email. We do have satellite link for email via “Globe Email” using Office Outlook, and this is instantaneously sent out or received.
Most ships have Satellite Television connection, in addition to your question. Through Direct TV and utilizing an enclosed RADOME atop our Bridge, we can get reception while underway! My favorite channels are Discovery, BBCA, History, and any channel with World Poker Tour! So as Merchant Marine, we can now stay up-to-date on world events and stay entertained, too!
Fair winds-
