It’s Summertime!
Officially at 0545 this morning, 21 June 09, Summer has Arrived!
The season has approached Michigan like a long and enduring voyage across the Pacific. Although with some strong thunderstorms, and cooler temperatures, the heat is in sight and Summer may be here, at last.
The Summer solstice is on June 21 this year. This is when the Earth’s northern hemisphere tilts towards the sun, yet is at its Aphelion, or farthest reach of the elliptical orbit in reference to the Sun. During Perihelion, or Winter Solstice, the Earth is at its closest orbit to the Sun,yet the Southern Hemisphere is tilted inward on December 21.This is when the Southern Hemisphere experiences its Summer.
The job outlook is mediocre, at best. I’ve seen a couple of jobs appear on the Dispatch job board, yet, I was too far up the list to be considered, apparently. This time of year, however, many are looking to ask for a relief during Summer. If I leave in a week or so, I might take a 120 day contract and be back for Winter. I have a twenty year high school reunion happening in November, as this would a prospective goal for finishing up a job.
I would take any shipping job, at this point. Whether it be tankers, containers, roll on/roll off, I’m qualified to work on just about “any ship-any size-anywhere”.
The state of Michigan is experiencing the largest unemployment figure within the nation. With almost fifteen percent of Michiganders filing for unemployment, the recent downfall of the auto industry or the preceding interruption from its vendors and contractors, I’m actually feeling fortunate that my job takes me outside of Michigan and onto the playing field of other originating companies who’s ships are continuing to be lucrative.
A Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there! My father is relaxing in Southern California
and probably tending to his garden as the vegetation is more than likely making an advance on the soil as plants and flowers are blooming and flourishing nicely.
Enjoy this start of Summer, folks!
