Clear Skies, Bright moon
The transit through the Atlantic Ocean went well. A Low system which stalled over the Azores had caused us some weather issues. Nothing materialized beyond more than fifteen foot seas as only strong gale wind-generated waves were produced. This system culminated into a Tropical Storm “Grace” which is currently causing some after effects throughout Western Europe.
Moving on, I’ve completed two months so far. These next two months will go relatively quickly. I’ve settled into this family on the ‘Tern’ and my future looks promising as I more than likely will be returning as either a Third mate or possibly a Second Mate. I do possess the License as Second
Mate Unlimited (tonnage).
My porthole or window I’ve managed, finally, to pry open and allow fresh clean, cool air to waft throughout my stateroom. The Air conditioner in my room has become a space heater as it has ceased to produce any temperatures below about 82 Fahrenheit or 25 C.
So by getting out and doing Bridge Watch or afternoon inspections, my time spent in the stateroom I keep at a minimum.
On one of my projects, I drilled out the rusted out studs from the Hinges on Number 2 Lifeboat and replaced them with through-bolts as the weather and normal wear and tear has worn what keeps the hinges in place. The cadet was highly utilized during this time.
Well, that’s all for now. Chief Mate has informed me of the Detroit Tigers inability to surpass their rivals and clinch their Midwest Division. I’ll root for Los Angeles now.
Have a great Friday!

Hi Nate
I just got my credential and it appears I will be going to sea for the first time in over 15 years.
Is there a way for me to contact you via email? I have a question but prefer it to be private. Thanx !
